This silver spider is common in NZ, but is quite tricky to photograph. The web shifts easily in the slightest breeze and the spider's silver body can easily generate blown highlights. It's taken me quite a few goes to get a picture I like.
Conditions were still and overcast for this shot, which helped resolve some of the challenges. Everything from the camera setting to the flash was manually set. One flash head was directed at the background, the other the spider.
It all came together at the right moment (finally)! The recent light drizzle left droplets in the web that adds to the image's impact.
