It was a late afternoon at Waiake beach, and I was taken in with how the blue sky and sea were vivid. The winter air had eliminated any heat haze, and the calmer conditions kept the salt-spray and sand out of the air. All that was left was clear air and vivid colours.
I composed the shot using the rocks I was standing on as foreground interest. Then lined up Rangitoto Island on the horizon. To capture the sense of peacefulness, I slowed the exposure down to 15 seconds.
Photo taken with Sony a7R and Minolta 17-35mm f3.5 G. Lee little stopper and 0.6 ND grad used to balance exposure. Shot at 35mm and at f22, ISO 100.
